A note: These horoscopes, more than usual, are meant to be read all the way through.

Cancer (June 22-July 22): We write these horoscopes a month in advance, Cancer. We are writing these in June, and despite our best efforts to divine your future from the stars, we cannot stop ourselves from thinking instead about the state of the nation. We cannot stop thinking about George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and the danger that all Black people in our nation face daily by mere virtue of existing.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22): Foolishly, Leo, we often operate under the assumption that all of our readers know that we live in an unjust society; a neoliberal police state that privileges whiteness above all other states of being. But not all people know or acknowledge this.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22):  Robin DiAngelo, the author of White Fragility, argues that our segregated society is set up to insulate whites from racial discomfort, so they fall to pieces at the first application of stress, Virgo. (And Robin DiAngelo is a white sociologist, which may be why so many white people have been willing to listen to her argument.)

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 23): White Fragility is a great entry point for white people who do not understand why they feel so uncomfortable talking about race, Libra. The next great step to take would be to pick up a copy of Ijeoma Oluo’s So You Want to Talk About Race, which will help give you the language to talk about race meaningfully and thoughtfully.

Scorpio (Oct. 24-Nov. 22): And then, Scorpio, you can do the hard work of talking to people—especially white people—about race. You can pick up a copy of Ibram X. Kendi’s How to Be an Antiracist and learn about practical, actionable steps you can take to contribute to the formation of a more just and equitable society.

Sagittarius (Nov. 23-Dec. 21): And even if you don’t have time to read three books, Sagittarius, you can still educate yourself about white privilege, racism, and anti-blackness. You can learn more about the lives of Black people killed at the hands of the police. All it takes is a Google search. (Or a search on DuckDuckGo.com, which will not track you the way that Google does.)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): You can donate to memorial funds for those people, Capricorn. You can donate to bail funds for protesters across the country. You can donate to mutual aid funds. You can also put your money to work by supporting Black-owned and Black-run businesses.

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): You can make it a point, Aquarius, to seek out films written and directed by Black people. Books written by Black authors, books featuring Black characters. Read horoscopes written by Black astrologers. (They’re smarter and funnier and more accurate than we will ever be. Check out Janelle Belgrave L.Ac, Danielle Ayoka, Aquarius Maximus, Mecca Woods, Sam Reynolds/Ebony SkyTalker, and Ashleigh D. Johnson.) You can work to round out your conception of what it means to be Black in America.

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20): Does it sound like a lot of work, Pisces? Consider all of the work Black people put in every day just to survive, and all of these things will start to seem like the very least you can do.

Aries (March 21-April 19): There is not a lot more we can say, Aries. We just couldn’t write the kind of fun and frivolous thing we usually do while our Black brothers and sisters are being tear gassed at peaceful protests across the nation.

Taurus (April 20-May 20): While you’re educating yourself on race, Taurus, take a little time to read up about police abolition and demilitarization as well. The End of Policing by Alex S. Vitale is a great place to start.

Gemini (May 21-June 21): And it’s Pride month, Gemini, which is also worth acknowledging. Take some time to learn about Marsha P. Johnson, a Black trans woman, who threw the first brick at Stonewall and spent most of her life advocating for queer rights. Pride wouldn’t exist without her.

Black Lives Matter.
