Qing Yu / Yidan Guo

This October, the Gallery at the Park presents Women Who Are Immigrants and Refugees, a series of portraits focused on first-generation immigrant women, painted by Yidan Guo.

Yidan Guo is a professional artist and educator based in Pocatello, Idaho. She has held solo exhibitions in China and the United States, and her work has been selected for more than 30 juried exhibitions worldwide.

Guo immigrated to the United States in 2013, and her work is driven by her experiences as an outsider; it explores themes of migration, displacement, fluid identities, and humanity. With this work, her aim is to foster mutual understanding between immigrant communities and American society.

She reflects: “Adapting to a new culture is rarely seamless or effortless. The emotional impact of relocation and acculturation continues to shape both my personality and my art, resonating with the shared experiences of other immigrant and refugee women.”

On Saturday, October 10, Guo will be leading a workshop for youth ages 7 to 14, where they will explore Chinese calligraphy as a visual art of movement, rhythm, space, and meaning. Get tickets online at galleryatthepark.org/childrens-workshop.

Exhibited alongside Yidan Guo is the 3D work of Columbia Fine Wood Artists, a group of local wood artists who are nationally and internationally recognized. Each artist has a unique flair, showcasing the various creative processes that can transform simple wood into beautiful artwork.

The featured wood artists are George Banning, John Barany, Heath Bateman, Jim Christiansen, Ron Gerton, Pat and Karen Miller, Troy Thompson, and Keith Welch Pullman.

Exhibition dates: October 6 – 30, 2026

Artist reception: Sunday, October 11, 1-3pm
