About the cover:

Cover art by Liam Bray

Recently, I have been enamored with the concept of loss as a way to see beauty in another. When I lose something, there is often another wonderful thing that I wasn’t taking notice of prior. The last time I experienced this, it was from the loss of my beautiful fish Jasper, who is featured here.

This loss, while devastating, brought my four Amano shrimp back into the open. Newly active and much more often seen, I was blown away by these little creatures’ apparent personalities and daily activities, and they have been a delight to watch in the now vacant space.

Recently, I noticed that two of the shrimp are actually berried, which means that they are now carrying fertilized eggs. Once they hatch, they will not survive for long in freshwater, but it is so beautiful to me how loss frequently blesses me with new life.
