It is time for our monthly reading, this time we are back to the pick-a-card format! I asked the deck to pick our theme and focus as a collective, and the Five of Cups came forward. The Five of Cups teaches us that even though things are not going according to the plan we have previously laid out, we still have plenty of opportunities at our disposal that we may not see if we are stuck in the illusion of what ‘should have been’. It is an invitation to actively process grief and disappointment so that we can move on to what we still have in front of us. So for this reading, we are focusing on how to let go.
Take some centering breaths, reflect on the question of how to let go, and allow yourself to be drawn to the message that is meant for you. This can be done by seeing which section your eyes drift to, picking a number (one, two, or three) and reading that message, or any other method you feel allows you to intuitively be guided.
CARD ONE
The Knight of Wands reversed is a card that indicates a very frustrating time when it comes to your goals and ambitions. This is a time when your level of passionate energy is much higher than the level of organization or opportunity that would be ideal. Setbacks and obstacles keep delaying things, or force you to change your plans altogether, resulting in disappointments and a building angst with no proper outlet. The result is causing burnout, and a fixation on the feeling of being stuck.
If you were drawn to this card, things have not gone quite the way you wanted, and frustration is becoming a problem. It is time to turn to the upright side of this card and the impulsive dynamic energy it represents: adaptability. The bright side of an impulsive dynamic is that it’s ideal for shaking things up and changing your methods. Do the unexpected, and focus on getting out of this rut. Stop insisting on going down the blocked road you had your heart set on, and go for the random alternative routes you saw along the way. For you, spontaneity is the way through this. You have the passion, just don’t get caught up in refusing to change your route. This might even look like heading in a completely different direction for a time, and that is okay. Don’t worry about heading in the ‘right’ direction; put your energy instead towards moving at all.
CARD TWO
The messenger for this section is the Five of Swords reversed. This is a card of debate, battles, and conflict. The nature of these conflicts is usually imbalanced, such as arguing with someone who has already made up their mind about your stance. When the Five of Swords is in this reversed position, the message of knowing when to pull back is even more present. The message is this: Don’t let this conflict become far bigger and longer than it ever needed to be.
If you were drawn to this card, you need to get comfortable with being misunderstood. You are spending too much energy trying to get your obstacles (whether they are people or situations) to see things your way, and it is a losing battle. Whether you are right or wrong is irrelevant to this card; it is about having the strength to step away from those who will not show you the respect of a fair fight. The way to let go so that you can move forward is to accept that you cannot force change in others (or in situations you cannot control), and that withdrawing your energy is sometimes the most powerful thing you can do. You do not need to explain yourself for the hundredth time; you just need to reclaim your time and effort for better things. It is natural to want to be understood, but you are the only one who needs to understand you right now.
CARD THREE
The King of Wands is all about action, inspiration, and leadership. This card represents some fast movement and an innovative spirit. This energy is very positive, but also very challenging for many. There is no room for letting your doubts run the show here, for the King of Wands is the one who isn’t afraid to have themselves and their kingdom forge a new path ahead without the safety of guarantees that it will work out. These are creative risks that pay off and an inventive spirit that greets opportunity with fiery energy.
If this card is your message, it is time to stop waiting for someone else to show you the way. It is time for you to step up as a leader. You have the vision and the inspiration. It is time to let go of the need to see someone else go first. Dive in and make the change that you want to see! There are challenges ahead, but the more you step into this role and really own it, the more you will be freed from some of the setbacks you encounter. Cast away your fear of making mistakes or of looking foolish, and do what you are setting out to do. The King of Wands typically also comes with teams and other helpers along the way, but you have to be the one to get things started.
