The title of this issue is, to me, something akin to the cover of Alan Moore's shocking 'Killing Joke'...
It is a perfect representation of what's going on in our country right now — our friends and loved ones are being hunted. They are kidnapped off the street by masked 'officials' or tricked by ICE ruses while they try to become citizens. They are stalked at their places of work and worship.
Here is what artist Grace Lieberman says about the piece, which is entitled: SO CORNY —FUNNY, NOT JAJA:
“We feed ourselves on migrant and immigrant labor, yet criminalize the hands that harvest our food. The contradiction borders on absurdity. But, when the fields are empty, the joke will be on us.”

SO CORNY is part of the series Lost in Translation, which serves as an apology to my Spanish ancestors for consistently mispronouncing the written expression “ja ja”. It is 50x44, acrylic, gouache, and pencil on Arches.

I urge you to read El Vuelo Informativo, especially this month. Ulises Navarro and Sara Batalla always have worthwhile writing to share. This month (as happens often), it made me cry.
