“To express my femininity in a way I love without worry of perception is not a hard endeavor, in theory. But in practice, I find it hard to hold my head up high under harsh words, assumptions of my inferiority, and danger lurking no matter what I’m wearing. I feel as though to be a woman in this political climate is to be, and feel, vulnerable.

Though, when making this piece, that harsh reality faded into the background. The love and joy I feel within myself and for everything feminine bled onto the paper. I hope someone else will find that same moment of solace when looking at this artwork, even if for just a second.”

Speaking of femininity, it's still March as I write this, which is National Women's Month, and I wanted to remind everyone that feminism is not a bad word. In fact, a lot of the identities we carry are used as invectives against us, but are not 'bad' words at all.

I'm working on a project called 'Bad Words' in the spirit of The Human Library Project. It will be an exhibit at the upcoming art show YOU NEED TO HEAR THIS, at Cafe con Arte in August–September.

We all carry multiple identities. Sometimes, some of them benefit us. Other times... not so much. For example, three identities I hold are white, queer, and disabled. (Guess which one benefits me the most?) No one, single identity defines us, and we all have many, many defining qualities.

I would like to invite you to examine an identity that you carry, and participate in this art project. If you're interested, email chaosautist@gmail.com for more information.
