A local woman’s dream is finally becoming a reality this month as Rise & Shine Bakery moves from Red Mountain Kitchen in Downtown Kennewick one whole block away to her own bakery and cafe!
Annelee Giese has been baking since she was 12, but it wasn’t until the pandemic hit that she got back into it with vigor. As an outlet for stress during that time she, like many others, baked and gave away her amazing goodies. After a while, she started to get messages from those people about how great her food was and how they’d pay “great money for these!”
She knew the owner of the community Red Mountain Kitchen, and after getting past a case of cold feet, she jumped right in and started baking for her business in May of 2021. It was the perfect example of the value of Red Mountain Kitchen — Annelee started as a flex business and after working through several night shifts, she was able to switch to days and now has a business space to sell her goods, Thursdays through Saturdays. She also has been going to multiple farmers markets to sell to people outside the Downtown Kennewick area.
A wife and mother of three, Annelee is very family oriented. It was her late father’s dream to see her open her own shop, so it’s fitting that her mother, Bev, has been right beside her on this journey, helping everywhere she can. (As a biased observer, I can promise that chatting with Bev is one of my favorite parts of stopping by the bakery!)
Rise & Shine Bakery is open as of May 31, serving Annelee’s from-scratch baked goods, coffee, energy drinks, and even boba. There are plans to have soups, salads, and sandwiches by the ribbon cutting in October, too, so you can have lunch and the best desserts.
Outside of work, Annelee loves spending time with her family, reading, and building puzzles. She wants everyone to know that outside of curing your sweet tooth, it is her hope that everyone who stops by feels uplifted and loved. Her passion isn’t just baking amazing desserts, but also knowing the joy they bring to people in the community.
