There is one common thread throughout much of the October issue: Respecting the lives of others. Not just respecting them, actually; VALUING their lives.
From the very first submission, a Letter to the Editor, to Scott Butner's photo essay about wheat farmers, to the #WeekWithoutDriving challenge, to the movement to end genocide, to Brian Griffin's essay about listening to people, to Madison Rosenbaum's plea to rethink breast cancer slogans, to Alejandro Souza's article about homelessness, to ArKidWhite's essay about the plight of prisoners, to Elia Mendoza's brave exposé about domestic violence and workplace bias, and more...
So much of this issue's content revolves around empathy. It calls on us to step outside ourselves and care about the lives of other people.
