TRIFI International Film Festival returns to Richland!

The annual Tri-Cities International Film Festival (TRIFI) will celebrate 16 years of independent, international, and domestic films when it kicks off on Friday, November 1, 2024. This year’s festival runs from Friday, November 1 through Sunday, November 3, and will screen short and feature-length films. The festival will include selections from nearly 100 submissions from filmmakers in more than 18 different countries. Films to be shown will include Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Comedy, Animation, Fan Film, Drama, Horror, Documentary, and Music Video genres.

FILM FESTIVAL LOCATIONS

The festival this year will be held in two locations at the Parkway in Richland. TRIFI’s primary location on Friday and Saturday will be the Richland Players’ Theater at 608 The Parkway in Richland. Additional films will be shown at Fuse SPC, located at 723 The Parkway in Richland.

This year’s spotlight film will be award-winning short comedy GAMMA MAN. Written and produced by local production company 2047 Productions, GAMMA MAN has been shown at several film festivals both internationally and stateside, and has won film contests in Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Recently, GAMMA MAN was screened at the Comic-Con Independent Film Festival in San Diego, California. GAMMA MAN is the story of a young man who creates a super-hero persona and must use this persona to save the girl of his dreams. GAMMA MAN will be shown at the Richland Players’ Theater. Check www.trifi.org for exact showtimes and dates.

THE 72 HOUR FILM CHALLENGE

A highlight of the TRIFI Film Festival each year is the 72 Hour Film Challenge. This competition features groups of filmmakers who must write, shoot, edit, and submit a finished short film within 72 hours. All films are judged by filmmakers and the winners receive prizes. The 72 Hour Film Challenge is designed to test and stretch a filmmaker’s capabilities, and to showcase local filmmaking efforts. The competition is free to enter, and teams can sign up online

This year’s 72 Hour Film Challenge will kick off online on Thursday, October 3 at 6pm and will conclude on Sunday, October 6 at 6pm. All films submitted for the 72 Hour Film Challenge will be shown during the TRIFI Film Festival on Saturday evening; prizes will be awarded at that time, as well. For more information about the rules and how to join the 72 Hour Film Challenge, check out the TRIFI website at: trifi.org/wp19/72-hour-film-challenge.

A key sponsor of this year’s 72 Hour Film Challenge is Final Draft, the maker of the filmmaking industry standard screenwriting software, Final Draft 13. A copy of the screenwriting software will be awarded to the best 72 Hour filmmaker in both the Student and Open divisions.

BEST OF THE FEST

For those who couldn’t watch every film they wanted to see, the program on Sunday, November 3 at Fuse SPC will feature the Best of the Fest: films that were the winners of each of the various genres, as well as films submitted to the 72 Hour Film Challenge.
