Tri-Cities People: Jason Turner

I’m Jason Turner

I've lived in the Tri-Cities for a majority of my life, just over 30 years.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am a once rambunctious child who has tempered himself into an IT professional, and I have been fixing people’s computer problems for the last 6 or 7 years. I also have been an active local musician since 2000, and I’m currently the drummer for 3 local bands.

What’s your favorite activity?

As a musician, I love to play drums and perform on stage. I have also developed a love for video games from an early age (FINALLY playing Zelda: Breath of the Wild!), and also enjoy graphic design.

What’s your vision for the community?

It concerns me that I’ve had friends who moved from here simply because they felt unwelcome due to particular views on race or sexual orientation, which are more popular than I was aware of until relatively recently. I feel the only way to change that is to remain here and try to help shift things toward a more accepting and inclusive community.

Who’s one of your heroes?

Absolutely one of the most inspiring people I’ve met in my lifetime is John Roach. John is an all-around amazing person who has been a shining example of an intelligent, passionate and focused leader, and he has helped provide opportunities to grow as a person and a professional. We need many more people in this world like John.

What drives you as a person or gets you excited?

I seem to have a built-in drive to strive for improvement in whatever it is I undertake. I admire skill and hope to be seen as someone with valuable skills in our community.

Are there any efforts or projects you want to highlight?

I am involved with both Flatten the Curve Tri-Cities (flattenthecurvetc.com) and All In Tri-Cities (allintricities.org), both of which strive to help our local community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
