Sacajawea Bluegrass Festival to hold free concert June 8

Sacajawea Bluegrass Festival will have a family-friendly, free concert on Saturday June 8, 2024. Open mic starts at 4pm, with a youth workshop presentation at 5:30, and concerts from 6pm to 9pm. On Saturday, everything is free, including parking. Be sure to bring chairs and a picnic meal as there are no food vendors on site.

The youth workshop and stage presentation is new for the festival. Kids will have instructors and activities on Saturday June 8 from 2pm to 5pm, then present what they’ve learned on stage at 5:30pm. If you know any young folks between the ages of 4 and 17 who would like to experience an introduction to Bluegrass music, be sure to call (509) 492-1555 to make arrangements, as we have a limited number of instruments that can be lent to the youth. No experience is needed. A parent or guardian must accompany the youth to register at the event.

The first Saturday concert starts at 6pm. Monroe Bridge is a Spokane based band with a finely-honed blend of traditional, contemporary, and original bluegrass, country, and gospel music. We love their tight vocal harmony and dynamic instrumentals.

At 7pm come the Horsenecks, Gabrielle Macrae and Barry Southern. Based in Astoria, Oregon, they are two multi-instrumentalists who have come together from traditional music backgrounds and found a sound with influences that include early Appalachian fiddle and banjo music, country, classic bluegrass, and original folk.

At 8pm, we present Rock Ridge Bluegrass Band. This exceptional Oregon band is comprised of Josie Grant (guitar, vocals), Dale Adkins (guitar, banjo, vocals), Josh Adkins (mandolin, vocals), and Suzanne Adkins (bass, vocals). This band has received rave reviews, and possesses very deep talent coupled with hard work, making them one of the tightest bluegrass bands in the northwest.

New for 2024: On June 7 is a Friday night Contra Dance, 7pm to 9pm. The dance is free, but vehicles that park must either display a Washington State Park Discover Pass or pay the state park $10 daily fee on site that day. Ridesharing is a good idea.
